The Road Trip

Today begins the road trip to Gulf Shores, fourteen hours in the car to one of the happiest places on Earth. A piece of my heart stays there. I have been traveling Gulf Shores with my family since I was 6 or 7 years old, so over 20 years.

When I was little, I had a certain spot in the “Gray Goose”, our trusty old van we had for over 11 years. I sat in the very back. My older sister, Bailey, sat behind my dad (driving) and my twin, Brooke, sat behind my mom. My dad would take the Friday of Spring Break off and spend the whole day sleeping, so that we could load up and leave around 4:30/5pm.

We stopped RARELY. It was almost a challenge every time we left for Gulf Shores. How little of stops could we take? Its about 3 stops for gas and we role in at about 6am.

Is has been a few years since I have been able to go with my family (last 5 years or so). My Spring Break hasn’t line up with my mom’s (who is also a teacher). This will be mine and Charlie’s first family vacation with my parents and his first time ever  to Gulf Shores. I amuse myself wondering: how will he do with the challenge? (aka I hope he doesn’t drink any liquids during the 14 hours in the car because he has the bladder of a small bird!)  Wish him luck!

Safe travels to anyone on the move over Spring Break!

  1. Your slice makes me so happy. And instantly puts me in my family’s old car as we used to drive down to Florida or Georgia or like I said, even gulf shores I think! I hope you have a fantastic time!

  2. A fourteen hour road trip with the folks! We used to drive fourteen hours to visit my older sister in TN. I totally get what you’re saying about how it almost becomes an endurance test. How long can we go without stopping? So fun to revisit a place so filled with memories and make new memories. Enjoy every moment!
